The Team

As well as doing fieldwork, collecting data, producing reports and developing educational programmes, ACT staff liaise with local residents, community groups and donors.

Maaka McCandless is project leader for ACT and oversees its field work. Maaka's responsibilities include monthly rat trapping and indexing and helping to monitor and count endangered species. He liaises with the Department of Conservation, visitors and schools.

Caleb Clarke and Damian Young are environmental engineers. They help the Trust implement its conservation and community goals by advising the Trust on matters including integrated catchment management, educational material development, and funding.

Professor John Ogden is the Chairman of the ACT Scientific Advisory Board and is its main scientific advisor. John is an Associate Professor in Forest Ecology at Auckland University's School of Environmental and Marine Sciences. His special interests are dendrochronology and the history and dynamics of New Zealand forests. He is a Trustee of The Windy Hill - Rosalie Bay Catchment Trust and also a Trustee of The Great Barrier Charitable Trust.
